I love me a skein of self striping yarn, I mean who doesn’t? It takes all the work out of changing colours and weaving in all those loose ends (*yawn* am I right?). And the ball of yarn usually has excellent colour coordination. Here is a roundup of 10 free patterns perfect for use with self-striping yarn.
Chevron Lace Infinity Scarf
This beautiful infinity scarf would be great for using up your striped yarn. And it looks pretty too.
Chic Cowl Neck Poncho
This poncho looks really stylish with the addition of a cowl neck. It would look great using any striped yarn.
Crochet Sunset Tunic
Here’s a cute one for summer. I love the carefree vibe this tunic gives off.
Waves of Warmth Slouch
Keeping up with the summer theme from the previous pattern, here’s the Waves of Warmth Slouch. Of course, I really don’t see myself wearing this in the summer, but it is a great design for self striping yarn and if you start crocheting now, you’ll have a new hat by the fall time.
Wrap me in Diamonds Crochet Scarf
I absolutely love this pattern and it works great for Lion Brand’s Mandala Yarn. I imagine if you’d want a thicker scarf you could use a Caron Cake or Bernat Pop as a substitute. It is difficult for me to find Mandala Yarn where I live, but I actually discovered a Wal-Mart that sells it! I kind of went nuts and bought a few skeins, seeing as I’ve never found it at another Wal-Mart. Anyway, I am currently in the process of crocheting this and it is turning out wonderfully.
Granny Stripe Blanket
I believe this pattern would work great with a self striping yarn. And it has that classic crochet look to it. One day, I will get around to making one.
Caron Wavy Crochet Afghan
You know when Michaels has those buy 1 get 1 free or buy 2 and get 1 free sales, well this would be a good time to stock up for a blanket such as this. Caron Cakes are awesome.
I’m thinking this would be a very soft scarf, seeing as its crocheted in Red Heart Soft Essentials Stripes. It’s also quite eye-catching.
Here’s a one skein wonder for the Mandala yarn. I think this is so pretty and it’s only one skein! That’s $7.97 CAD.
Asymmetrical Neck Warmer
And because Lion Brand’s Landscape yarns has one of my favourite colour ways of all time (Boardwalk!), this is the final free pattern in this roundup. It uses two skeins, which is alright because I find this line of yarn to be expensive and it seems to never be on sale!
